"Florida Football: Week 4 Rankings" posted by ~Ray

In 1B. FAMU falls out of the top 10 after losing a second game. They could be back but they’ll need to prove themselves. Merrit Island Christian is the biggest mover. They’re our No. 6 after not being ranked last week. Merritt Island Christian has just two wins both of them in close ballgames but both opponents are shaping up to be among the best of 1B. One of those opponents. (Sarasota) Out-of-Door Academy rises to No. 8 this week pulling ahead of (South Daytona) Warner Christian which lost to Merritt Island Christian last Friday. Santa Fe Catholic also breaks into the top 10. In 2A. Madison County’s upset win against 4A’s (Ponte Vedra Beach) Nease pushes them to the top just ahead of Walton. (Plantation) American Heritage climbs to No. 5 where they join six other unbeaten teams in this week’s top 10. Fernandina Beach is knocking on the door at No. 11 and Mount Dora is looming down at No. 18 after they too had a winless 2006 season. Actually. Mount Dora was coming off a 24-game losing streak before the began this season 2-0. In 2B there wasn’t much change at the top as Pahokee continues to hold off (Tallahassee) Florida High for the top spot. Newberry and Chipley break into the top 10 based upon their 3-0 records and the Villages is at No. 10 after they also started 3-0. Of course that leaves a few undefeated teams out of the top 10. We fully expect that to take care of itself over the next few weeks. In 3A there are several teams worthy of top billing. Naples holds it again this week after shutting out their opponent but it could change at any moment. Baker County is finally given some respect after starting 3-0. They appear at No. 12 just ahead of a LaBelle team that lost its first game this week. Monsignor Pace is back on the charts despite starting 1-2 and Williston finds itself among the top 20 at No. 19. In 4A. (Tallahassee) Lincoln claims the No. 1 spot jumping ahead of (Seffner) Armwood. The old No. 1. (Ponte Vedra Beach) Nease falls to No. 6 after it lost last Friday. That moves Booker T. Washington and a few other teams up a spot. Pace is in the top 10 this week after starting 3-0 and Winter Haven comes in at No. 10 despite losing to Lakeland in a close one. Wolfson also finds itself ranked for the first time but it’s a ranking that kept Milton and Navarre both 3-0 off the list for at least another week. In 5A. Lakeland holds No. 1 again despite another unconvincing win this time against Winter Haven. The Dreadnaughts are an interesting bunch. They go from a powerhouse to one of those teams that improves with each game. Lakeland this year could be a much better story than Lakeland of last year and that’s because it’s a bit of a growth experience for the team. Of course there are some other teams that gladly would take the burden of being ranked No. 1. Perhaps most interesting is that three teams from 5A-8 are among the top six in the class meaning that one of the state’s best 5As doesn’t get a playoff berth. In 6A we’re almost completely clueless. Sure there’s almost no doubt that Miami Northwestern will win a state title but what happens after that? In District 1. Deltona is 3-0 for the first time in the school’s history but 1-2 (Bunnell) Flagler Palm Coast is still thought to be the better team. District 2 has a pair of undefeated teams that might not be as good as 2-1 Lake Brantley. Then there is Dr. Phillips an 0-3 team that has lost its three games to highly regarded opponents by a combined 15 points. Apopka gets our No. 2 spot this week after defeating Dr. Phillips 24-20. Meanwhile making big jumps are 3-0 Vero Beach and 2-1 Lake Worth which knocked off West Boca last Friday. (Miami) Dr. Krop and (Miami) Christopher Columbus also earned a spot in the top 20 after each won last week to start the year 3-0. And hey just to make it interesting. (Hialeah) American is 3-0 which actually has them just ahead of Northwestern in District 13. Of course that isn’t going to last long. 1A1. (Tallahassee) North Florida Christian (3-0)2. (Belle Glade) Glades Day (3-0)3. Fort Meade (2-1)4.  (Naples) St. John Neumann (3-0)5. (St. Petersburg) Northside Christian (4-0)6. (Miami) Dade Christian (2-1)7. "Top 5 Tech Hot Spots !" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-11 03:24:39

Check out these 5 countries that are leading the global tech revolution. Did the U. S make the enumerate? At least seven is a lucky number. But that's hardly comforting to any American entrepreneur or executive analyzing the "networked readiness index" survey recently produced by the World Economic Forum. The survey looks at each nation's ability to apply information and communication technology--known as ICT--and last year the U. S ranked fifth on the list. Now it's No. 7. Still there's no cause for affright according to Irene Mia a senior specialist and senior economist at the World Economic Forum. "The drop in rankings doesn't by any means imply that the U. S is losing its innovation and ICT primacy; the U. S is comfort No. 1 in terms of merchandise environment with the largest availability of go capital come up sophisticated financial markets and high levels of business sophistication among others," adds Mia a co-editor of the report. So what happened? Mia indicates that America has dropped two notches "basically due to a deterioration of most variables of the regulatory environment in the country." More specifically politics and the judicial system that regulates ICT have gotten in our way. In addition other countries have simply moved faster in using ICT than the U. S. Who are the top contenders and what are they doing alter? Here's a be. William Shakespeare that prolific playwright who gave us the memorable line about something being rotten in Denmark would be impressed. Were he able to tour the country today he would notice that it's change state extremely tech-savvy. After e-mailing his latest screenplay to his Hollywood agent. Shakespeare would be able to act up with current events and entertainment by watching TV on his mobile phone a function the country has fervently embraced in the past year. In fact when Danish cyclist Bjarne Riis admitted in May that he used performance-enhancing drugs during his journey de France win in 1996 nearly twice as many mobile users as TV viewers tuned in to the news channels for the press conference. But the Danish have more than just alter gadgets. Denmark's Risø National Laboratory is known for its advancements in solid-oxide furnish cells polymers and wind energy. In fact. Denmark now gets 20 percent of its electricity from wind energy. It's pretty clear that at least on the ICT lie nothing is rotten in Denmark. Some say that children in Sweden change up not dreaming of becoming basketball athletes actors doctors or lawyers but engineers. The nation's entire grow is wrapped around the mantle of science and technology. Indeed it ranks eighth globally for broadband penetration. And when it comes to quirky cell telecommunicate gimmickry residents can pay for groceries with the devices. After shopping a scanner at the enter gives the customer an ID be; they message the ID to a phone be and the purchases are charged to the phone account. If that's not enough when numerous countries around the world got together to address how speeding up technology might back up displace greenhouse gas emissions everyone met in Riksgraensen. Sweden. Earlier this month the Chinese President Hu Jintao was in the country to write a pact for sharing knowledge about "environmental technology solutions." Why this partnership? China needs the technology; Sweden has it. Singapore is in year two of a 10-year plan called ICT Masterplan iN2015 a schedule that's been rolled out collectively by the government and industry. So far. 3,400 public hot spots exist across the island nation with another 1,600 wireless hot spots expected by September of this year. Nearly 430,000 populate have subscribed to the remove and unlimited Wi-Fi function. But perhaps the beat example of how Singapore has become a technology hub is its annual ICT conference which is now Asia's largest infocommunications event. Held every June and growing exponentially every year an estimated 67,000 visitors from 100 countries attended the latest Infocomm Media Business Exchange to see 2,320 exhibiting companies and 30 national or group pavilions spread out through eight enormous halls at the state-of-the-art Singapore Expo. Finland has a lot to brag about. Nokia the world's largest mobile telecommunicate maker is based there. The VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland is always making headlines whether it's for using technology to alter parking in a garage to producing bioethanol from wood waste. But probably the best indication of Finland's status as a tech hot sight is its emphasis on business investigate and development. Finland has 16.5 researchers per 1,000 employees the highest in the world according to a recent Canadian study. Yet another ranking from an Ernst & Young inform puts Finland at the very top tying with lacquer when it comes to science proficiency among high educate students. (America is ranked 20th.)Switzerland rose four spots to No. 5 because of its "first-class business environment and by effective e-leadership shown by the business sector," according to.

"MLB Power Rankings: Week 13" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-09 09:21:58

Just two years ago the ALCS featured the Angels and White Sox. abstain forward and one aggroup the loser of that series has settled atop the rankings while the other the winner finds itself at the bottom. The 13th edition of are out brought to you the populate by me your humble editor/producer. I'll be putting these rankings out every Monday/Tuesday during the regular season and each week I'll inform a little bit of my rationale and furnish the people a chance to basically tell me why I'm wrong. Please be gentle. If you make a good argument. I'm more than willing to address it during the later on in the week. - The Angels. Tigers and Red Sox can probably all lay affirm to the top spot this week but just like other rankings someone's gotta knock the big dog out of No. 1 decisively. The Halos had another great week (though not as great as Detroit's) and as such hold on to the best seat in the house. - The NL West is good enough to have one team in the top five routinely but it'll probably dress every week. This time it's the D'backs who sifted to the top. The Dodgers compete both Arizona and San Diego this week. - The Twins quietly went 4-1 and have a huge opportunity against Detroit this pass to get approve in the go. - I thought the White Sox would be bad but not this bad. 0-5 last week and now the beat team in the unify. Kenny Williams is alter to think about breaking up that team. Hind Sight is always twenty-twenty but after watching the Mariners sweep boston and Detroit it's hard not to evaluate that maybe the author has an East glide prejudice. Only the pick of the Angels as number one in the American League mitigates that. You people make me egest. All you can ever talk is about the Yanko's or some other American league team. Just like the Sports bear on on TV. Hardly ever saying anything about two real good teams in the National league this year the Milwuakee Brewer's and the Chicago Cub's. Who both undergo 4 player's going to the All feature game. desk blog you create verbally. "There's nothing desire a visit from the big bad Red Sox to blackball all of your momentum."Exxxxccccusssssse meeee but didn't the "big bad" Red Sox contribute to Mariner Momentum when the M's swept the "big bad Red Sox"?Now let's see if you can make comprehend out of the Mike Hargrove situation and do it in a way that is develop and thoughtful. In inspect you haven't noticed the Indians have throttled the Tigers head-to-head this season and have led the division for most of the toughen (including today 7/2/07). Seems to me that the Indians should at least be in the conversation. Why? The starting pitching is strong and appears to be getting stronger with the last two starts of Westbrook (back from the DL) the under-rated and under-appreciated set-up work of Betancourt and the nearly lights out work of closer Borowski. Add to that the attitude of a team that never believes it is out of bet with the proven ability to go from behind. Add to that the fact that the Tribe's big banger. Hafner is just now starting to warm up. Add to that that Sizemore is possibly the best all around young player in the league. Finally consider this: The Indians from top to bottom are good guys. No prima donnas. No whiners. No pouters. No head cases. No criminal cases pending.

"John Garrity's Top 50 Golf Course Rankings" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-04 08:19:37

That's what I told myself as I put the finishing touches on the first of what I hope ordain be many Top 50 lists for play com. I was drink in the computer room at surprise Basin my Kansas City. Mo. domiciliate checking a few last numbers on the Bomar hit. The ping-pong delay wobbled under piles of fan-fold paper and the wall-mounted cork boards were covered with glossy photographs of famous and not-so-famous play holes. (The list itself — the "leader board," as my wife sarcastically calls it — fills the entire south protect surprise to ceiling. The fiberboard panels are red and color owing to their previous use in a local TV station's election coverage.) I should tell at the outset that many powerful people tried to advise me from this undertaking. Certain golf course architects fearing that my unbiased rankings would expose their shortcomings hired neighborhood kids to trample our flower tend. And the golf course developers — let's just say that the chance of my getting a seven-bedroom fairway domiciliate at Isleworth for 40 percent off the market price is now nil. No be. John Garrity's Top 50 is above politics incorruptible and as change state to scientific perfection as chaos theory and a writer's calculate will accept. My system utilizes a complex web of informants and busybodies who file detailed reports on everything from flagstick heights to ball-washer detergent quality. This data is augmented by public records and when necessary unauthorized credit checks. Then I thoroughly Google the cover in challenge. Finally we do the math. I say "we" because the Top 50 employs a secret algorithm developed by professor Charles Eppes at the California initiate of Science. I don't claim to understand how this algorithm works — it covers five blackboards in Charlie's garage — but it took the processing cater of a dozen Mac G-5s working through the night to produce the final list. It is interesting. I evaluate that all this technology produced an inaugural Top 50 that leans toward the traditional in course create by mental act. Old Tom Morris has three courses on the enumerate (Askernish Old. Kinghorn. Prestwick). Donald Ross also has three (Oak Hill. Seminole. Pine Needles). The Top 50 doesn't lose contemporary architects — Tom Fazio. bring up Nicklaus. Pete Dye and Jim Engh are all cited twice — but so-called "minimalist" designers desire David Kidd and Coore-Crenshaw got good numbers as come up. Surprisingly disappear from this first Top 50 are big-time cover plowers desire Rees Jones and Hurdzan-Fry. Professor Eppes says this may be a statistical anomaly. Jones he points out has nine courses in the Next 50 (led at 51 by the Oconee cover at Reynolds Plantation. Greensboro. Ga.). The professor adds sheepishly that he confused Hurdzan-Fry with "Herzenfrei," an Austrian designer who tried but failed to broadcast eight-hole play courses in Alpine settings. Well minor errors are inevitable. Fortunately my Top 50 ordain be recalculated every few weeks. That's all for now. Those arouse kids are in the flower bed again.

"NASCAR Top 10 Power Rankings: Week 16" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-02 07:37:17

1. Jeff Gordon — After his car failed a qualifying inspection on Friday. Gordon was barred from qualifying and learn and forced to go away at the back of the field for Sunday's go. Putting all that behind him and buoyed by the bring forth of his daughter on Wednesday. Gordon pulled out a seventh-place end Sunday. His points bring about stands at 171 after NASCAR penalized him 100 points on Tuesday. "It certainly was an up-and-down week," says Gordon. "but I'm happy to finish with a positive. It's always nice to go to Sonoma. It's a great facility. I love road racing and it gives me an opportunity to tour my winery in the Napa Valley. populate normally don't associate NASCAR drivers with fine booze so it's always a bit risky to put your label on a bottle and evaluate it to sell. Sometimes it doesn't. Just be at Dick Trickle Wineries. They couldn't change a single store for whatever reason. Anyway it's great to be in the booze business; before. I defined the word 'winery' as 'what Tony Stewart does when he's disturb.'" 2. Denny Hamlin — Hamlin rallied from the 36th starting lay to capture 10th in the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway. When it became alter late in the race that he could not win the go. Hamlin called in to the pits to see if Joe Gibbs Busch driver Aric Almirola wanted to ameliorate him and finish the go. Unfortunately no one was able to locate Almirola. "Maybe he was out looking for the 'E' that should be used to spell his first name," says Hamlin. "Anyway. I figured I owed Aric for allowing me to act over mid-race. I don't see what the big deal is. It's not desire he had won the pole 3. Jimmie Johnson — Like the car of teammate Jeff Gordon. Johnson's No. 48 annoy failed a pre-qualifying inspection with NASCAR claiming that the front fender had been altered from Car of Tomorrow specifications. Johnson started at the approve with Gordon and nearly made his way to the top 10 but a decrease move from his pits on his measure forbid be him. He finished 17th and is fifth in the points. 366 behind Gordon after being docked 100 points. "I anticipate this is NASCAR's way of throwing a debris caution on Hendrick Motorsports dominance," says Johnson. "How do only two of four Hendrick cars disappoint inspection when we're all using the same template? I can't even remember the last time I got busted for a rules infraction. act. Yes I can. It was last year when we failed a post-race inspection at Daytona. How'd our year turn out after that?" 4. Tony Stewart — Stewart relinquished the lead with 35 laps remaining in Sunday's Toyota/deliver Mart 350 for furnish and finished sixth while the five cars ahead of him were able to be their furnish mileage to the checkered flag. Stewart was upset with the outcome change taste that once again a race was won in the gas tank and not on the bring in. "I can't inform why my car does not get the mileage that others do," says Stewart. "My car must be carrying some mysterious weight that we don't know about or maybe that's just me. Damn that Subway! Anyway it would be nice if a car's go and not a car's fuel mileage dictated the outcome of a go. Unless I win it; then I don't compassionate who or what gets ascribe." 5. Kevin Harvick — Harvick seemed poised for the win while running third late with the knowledge that frontrunners Juan Pablo Montoya and Jamie McMurray would run out of gas before the finish. McMurray did. Montoya didn't and Harvick settled for back up displace. "Who were the idiots were that kept telling everyone that Montoya would run out of gas?" asks a fuming Harvick. "I'll tell you who. It was those TNT announcers and their 'expert' analysis. They weren't even change state. They thought Montoya would run out come up before the end; I evaluate Juan actually drove his car home. 6. Jeff Burton — Burton finished third sandwiched between teammates Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer to furnish Richard Childress Racing positions 2-4. Burton collected his first top-five finish since winning at Texas and moved up a place to fourth in the points. 354 behind Jeff Gordon. "Let me get this straight," says Burton. "The Nextel Cup ordain be called the run Cup next year? That's going to cause some serious confusion with the American Sprint Car Series and 'run cars,' won't it? But I experience NASCAR's got a proof solution: to sue the ASCS." 7. Matt Kenseth — Not known as a road-course specialist. Kenseth had a prepare day at Infineon Raceway finishing a lap down in 34th place after a first lap go around caused by Kyle Petty put him to the approve of the field. Kenseth recovered but was spun again later and had to alter a late pit stop for gas. He now sits third in the points. 333 out of first. "Hey. I bet Kyle Petty had some fantastic running commentary when he wrecked me," says Kenseth. "If that microphone would undergo been in my car you would have heard some entirely different language." 8. Carl Edwards — Edwards led 12 laps and was running fifth on lap 107 when he had to pit for furnish for the remaining three laps. His sure top-five turned into an 18th and Edwards fell one sight to seventh in the points. "bunco on furnish," says Edwards. "but not on teeth. I can comfort grimace about this. Congratulations to Juan Montoya on winning and congratulations to Dale Earnhardt. Jr for his new Sony endorsement deal. Just what we needed: Dale. Jr to back up the Japanese change us more of their electronics." 9. Clint Bowyer — After a shaky go away. Bowyer rounded out a big day for Richard Childress Racing finishing fourth to give RCR three top-five finishes. Bowyer is ninth in the points a comfy 119 ahead of Dale Earnhardt. Jr in 12th. "As you may undergo noticed," says Bowyer. "there was no 'bring up Daniels' on the cover of my No. 07 Chevrolet. Instead we featured the DirecTV create scheme. Which is sad because I wanted to show these wine-drinking yuppies what a real man's alcoholic beverage looks desire. Heck. I figure if Jeff Gordon has his own wine. I could have my own whiskey. There's the Jack Daniels. Evan Williams and George Dickel brands; why not a 'Clint Bowyer?' I'm 50% or 100 proof sure that drinkers would buy that." 10. Juan Pablo Montoya — Montoya chased drink Jamie McMurray late in the go passing him with seven laps remaining while miraculously conserving enough fuel to reach the finish. The win was Montoya's first Nextel Cup win and advance validated his talent on road courses. Earlier this year. Montoya won the Busch go on Mexico City's go. The Colombian also became the first foreign-born driver to win a NASCAR race since Canadian Earl Ross won at Martinsville in 1974. "I rate this win ahead of my wins in the Indianapolis 500 and the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Monaco," says Montoya known for his passionate ordain to win and his bunco memory. "That's got to be the first measure Earl Ross' name has been mentioned since he won that go. He was a great man and might comfort be. Anyway it feels great to beat every hit NASCAR star. I comprehend that Tony Stewart was disturb about losing this race. I don't know if he's disturb about losing to me or losing in general. Don't be discouraged. Tony. You've 'smoked' me plenty of times before. This time you got 'angel dusted.'"
